born in 1973, lives and works in Lausanne (Switzerland).
If Loïc Martin's work seems in reaction, his plastic expression finds its source in the intimate. The origin of his themes stems from a confrontation with his family heritage. Great grandson of the painter Rodolphe Théophile Bosshard, the painter's work was just as a freedom to see but also a heritage carried as a constraint crystallizing the foundations of his works.
Using different media such as sculpture, photography and painting, his work revolves around our humanity, the reading of our modes of expression and the powers erected as justifications of existence. Seduction, sex, money, violence, technology and death collide in his works.
Using representation and at the same time references to clear symbols like Pop Art has done, the artist brings, through his work of games of overlays, a cantilevered feeling in the front of the semiotic evidence of his works. He thus seeks, through the use of appropriationism, the boundaries determining the imaginary territories of these intertwined powers and what would lie beyond them.

Si le travail de Loïc Martin semble en réaction, son expression plastique trouve sa source dans l’intime. L’origine de ses thématiques naît d’une confrontation face à son héritage familial. Arrière petit-fils du peintre Rodolphe Théophile Bosshard, l’œuvre du peintre fut tout autant une liberté de voir mais aussi un bagage porté comme une contrainte cristallisant les fondements de ses œuvres.
Utilisant différents médias comme la sculpture, la photo et la peinture, son travail s’articule autour de notre humanité, de la lecture de nos modes d’expression et des pouvoirs érigés comme justifications de l’existence. La séduction, le sexe, l’argent, la violence, la technologie et la mort se confrontent dans ses oeuvres.
Usant de la représentation et en même temps des références à des symboles clairs comme l’a fait le Pop Art, l’artiste amène par son travail de jeux de superpositions un sentiment de porte-à-faux face à l’évidence sémiotique de ses œuvres. Il cherche ainsi par un usage de l’appropriationnisme, les frontières déterminant les territoires imaginaires de ces pouvoirs imbriqués et ce qui se trouverait au-delà de ceux-ci.
